Guest
I see lots of posts about what not to do if you move to Thailand (own a bar), what skills are marketable in the US, but not in Thailand due to low wages (tech skills)... So, what job skills in the US are valuable to a non-Thai speaking American who considers moving to Thailand? My personal situation is that I think about spending a few years out there from time to time. I am a business consultant - doing software integration wtih business processes (more business process/training/redesign expert rather than IT). I am highly marketable in the US. If I did go to Thailand for a while (small chance, but considering), I would ideally want to work part-time providing those types of services - making enough to live comfortably, but not expecting US consulting wages.. Is there any possiblity to that? Thanks.. bgr
Guest
Intelligent companies will never ever hire a foreigner to do any kind of work in Thailand, unless at a Thai salary. Anyhow, there are a lot of American corporations that have some kind of business in Thailand that might do it... what a bunch of idiots. I was there during 6 years on a very well paid position by one of those American corporations, unless you wanna do the teacher thing, IMHO just try to get the job while you're at the US, not locally in Thailand. There is always a Malay, Indian, Singaporean, ... that will accept the job for a fraction of your cost. I spent the last two years of my assignment convincing the management of the corporation I was working for that was absolutely stupid to have people on an expat package to go work Thailand... and I did succeed. ... All the positions that were occupied by Americans, Australians, Kiwis and Europeans are now on local assignement...

A genuinely marketable skill, I have discovered, is "performing the elephant" late at night in a LOS go-go bar i. e. jumping up on the stage/counter uninvited, pulling out both your trouser pockets and hanging your cock out of your flies ::. Never fails to have the Mama-san rushing to bring me a free cup of strong black coffee and have a couple of her "girls" :hubba: kindly escort me to a taxi shortly after I've drained the complimentary beverage. Hope that's helpful. jack
Guest
Went to one of the sex show and watched the venue. About 5 minutes after the show was over, a Thai man (the only Thai man in the audience) got up and passed out. I assume he does this at the end of every show. When he passed out, everybody looked at each other and then high tailed it to the door. This made room for another crowd of foreigners (all paying cover charge). Nice scam. I could do this. In a good day, I could probably make 4000 - 5000 baht. Maybe work 2 or more places, if they are nearby.
rovineye
Why would everyone high tail it out because someone passed out? And you paid a cover? And there are so many farangs wanting to get in that they intentionally empty the place? Sounds like a consultant is needed there. It don't add up. I've been in pubs like that. In fact, there was an alcoholic freelance bird I used to booze with at Soi 7 Beergarden ? streetname of "Tab": 14 grandkids, left ear missing, and a home-done tattoo round her arsehole reading "SAXON 'Wheels of Steel' Tour 1983" ? who could squeeze out a 'silent but violent' eggbound fart and clear the beergarden in 1 minute flat. She now does construction work in Chiang Mai. jack
Fatbastard
So companies like TFB, AIS, HKSB etc are not intelligent? A Thai friend of mine, owns and runs a major Chemical company here, he also employs a great number of expats. The reason he employs them is because its cost effective, He cannot employ Thai's for the same cost, with the skill and experience he requires, sure they are available but at much more money. Thai Salaries, I wouldn'd mind working for the "Thai salaries" that the boys at TOT awards themselves, it would make make any expat employed in the Telecom sector, eyes water
