what skills are marketable in thailand?

No more off the cuff remarks as it's now in Career/finance.

It's a very good question. There is a big need for good expertise over here. Especially if it is real value added that will make Thai firms competitive on a world class scale. Right now, very few operate at that level. There is a huge need for research. Organizing raw data in a way that it can be used would be extremely valuable.

"Intelligent companies will never ever hire a foreigner to do any kind of work in Thailand, unless at a Thai salary." I find this is short-sighted. Not many Thais have experience in risk management, or even money management. Where do the rich people keep their money.... Bank deposits. This is just one area, there's factory automation, supply chain management, investor relations...

Unfortunately, what seems to be more valuable here, rather than knowledge, is connections. So the ability to network is what will most likely determine your ability to earn. To also make yourself attractive, you WILL have to learn thai (rare exceptions for exceptional experience). Especially if you want to do business consulting (unless you are consulting at the TOP level). Even then, you will be left out because even though most of the meetings are in English, parts might not be, and you'll be excluded out of the ones that occur outside of the board room.
