Football Songs

When i am not in Thailand i go to every Arsenal game, the latest song from the last home game is:-

"ruud van shithimself sha la la la la"but my all time favorite is"Oh teddy teddy, you went to man utd and you won f*** all"several years ago in the charity shield at wembley this song destroyed him.

I dont like the sick songs and despite being pasionate clock end supporter i wont sing them, but most the songs are just piss taking ,and often the away team even join in and laugh at themselves, last year against Liverpool,Phil Thompson was out of his pram shouting on the touchline ,the Arsenal fans started singing "sit down Pinocchio",,,soon the Liverpool fans joined in and was singing "we got Pinocchio"

I think Man City probably have the best singing away supporters.

the Teddy song was sung after the 1st season when he joined MU and the Arse won the double.

at the end of the next season it was:-

"oh Teddy,Teddy

went to Man Utd and he won the lot"........ :neener:

i don't think i will ever hear a song like that concerning the Arse in my lifetime...... :grinyes:

i like the west ham song that went something like 'we got di canio, you stole di stereos' whenever they played the Reds. i guess charlton can say now and probably did after the 3 nil massacre they put on the reds. when they were brielf on top of the table in the '03 campaign, in mid september, spurs suffered a big home loss in a local derby (perhaps fulham or charlton) and the away fans started chanting 'now we feel like arsenal'

gunneruk, has it right, some songs are spontaneous. in our west ham return match at highbury, west ham scored after having a man sent off and started singing 'we've only got ten men' then the arsenal faithful replied 'you've only got 10 points' hahaha...a universal chant from all the prem clubs is 'stand up if you hate (man) united'

and of course arsenal fans singing 'boring boring arsenal' or 'same old arsenal, always boring' or nowadays 'same old arsenal, always scoring' .

get the chant right please.

it's 'stand up if you hate Man U'

the chant was also a favourite at OT when we went through the period of being forced to sit down during games.

a sort of protest song.

if you stood up for a nanosecond you were in danger of being thrown out and deprived of the season ticket.

funny to watch sections of the ground all standing up and the officials all running around like rabbits in headlights wondering what to do next...... :grinyes:

first of all apologies to sayjan for the offense .

my point was that in the 80s a lot of footie songs were sick (as were everyday pub jokes) and ,whether we like it or not , were sang by the vast majority of the behind the goals terrace standers( who like me were in our late teens and grew up in footballs most violent era). remember these were the days when people did actually die at games , fighting was expected and even encouraged by bouncer types who greeted you outside the game with details of where the fight would be after the game and encouraged you to join in and do 'your bit' for your team. our tv screens were filled with pictures of miners strikes, fleet street strikes, and police baton charges . very violent times with no interest in common decency or respect.

this doesnt make the singing of those ,or other songs , correct in that time. anyone who remembers chelsea from that era know their songs were very politically motivated( some really anti IRA sentiment), and coming from scottish parents , i know the religious hatred sung by a large secton at both rangers / celtic games.these are certainly no better or worse than references to tradegies of any sort. it was just the era- and once again sorry if i have caused offense and i know better next time.

thankfully times have changed and footie( with the help of sky) has become the family sport it was always suppossed to be. the days of violence and racism on the terraces have all but disappeared (exception of eastern europe) .not sure about on the pitch though with england having such a large indian population i still cant figure out the lack of pro indian players. go to any schoolboy park game and you will see indians at every level and age playing so why the no show on the pro scene - any opinions?

choco steve brought up an interesting point about john barnes receiving abuse. he was the subject of a hate campaign by a hard core eliment of both liverpool and everton fans when he first transfered there from watford but he overcome huge odds to become the darling of the kop and an exceptional liverpool player in a very short time.

hope i have sorted a few things out sayjan and that my apologies are excepted.

funniest footie song i ever experienced was in the mid 80s when saints travelled to anfield for the 2nd leg of the league cup semi final. we were outplayed, outclassed and outsung by the liverpool - losing 3-0 to a dalgleish inspired performance. anyone who has never seen the kop in its day , standing packed in like sardines, scarf swaying ,singing with passion has missed one of footballs greatest spectacles.

anyway , the kop out sung us for the whole 90 mins and as was usual then the away fans were kept in for about 45 mins so the home fans could get home and risk of confrontation was minimal. about 7000 saints fans were standing silent facing an empty kop and about 200 stewards and police in a line across the pitch when some comedian from our end starting pointing at the empty kop and sang " you're not singing anymore"

(common chant from the day) before you knew it it seemed the whole 7000 were singing and pointing at the empty kop -even the police clapped us.

"sfcfan will be totally ignored by me in future and anyone else who thinks Munich was funny....."

i have calmed down a lot since my original post about the comments about the Munich chants.

i think i will accept the apologies of sfcfan, but the reason i reacted was because i thought he found the whole thing funny.

i know there will always chants about players and their private lives and some of them bring it upon themselves, but chants about death are too much.

this weekend MU play Leeds and there is a notorious element amongst the Leeds fans who have a reputation for being the worst for raking up memories of Munich.

because of this many MU fans hate Leeds with a lot of venom.

with all the shenanigans of the last few weeks i think there will be a few chants in the following weeks about the Players involved, but as i say, they bought it upon themselves.

i see Sky have chosen for the Saints/Pompey game for live transmission.

perhaps they should concentrate their cameras on the events before and after the game..... :nono:

Humm Sayjann, where is that innocent until proved otherwise stance you proclaimed so strongly on the Rio thread?

Maybe its just reserved for Man.U. players

behave.

i have no problems with any chants against Rio,he did wrong.

my real complaint was that he was banned from England when no charges proved or even levelled against him.

no police have been involved,no DNA testing has been involved and no lurid tales of (un)willing young girls being 'roasted' by several players.

other players have also been accused of things and are awaiting decisions as to what thier fate might be.

to me everyone is innocent until proved guilty but we know how the general public will react over all these matters.

over the years many players have been accused of many things and nothing was proven in the end,but this never stops the chants.

even if Rio is found not guilty on any charge levelled, the public will think that because no test,he must have been taken drugs and they will not forget.

why has he not been banned by the FA in this case for playing for MU as well?,i find this confusing.

I used to go and watch Arsenal when Manu Petit played for them. His song was:

"He's short, he's quick,

His name's a porno flick,

Emmanuel, Emmanuel..." :hubba:

They had one for Beckham as well, which went something like:

"Your hairstyle's nice,

You shag Posh Spice,

But you're a fucking wanker..." ::

jack
