New Mexico is considering a mandatory breathalyzer in every car sold. One would have to prove he/she is not drunk before the ignition was engaged:

New Mexico eyes in-car breathalyzer

Drivers may have to pass an in-car breathalyzer test in order to start their engine in New Mexico with a new law under consideration.

Reuters reported Monday that the state is thinking about adding an alcohol-detection device to cars because it's fifth in the U.S. in drunk-driving fatalities according to group Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The device works by locking the ignition if a driver breathes more than the legal limit of alcohol into the breathalyzer. It costs about $1,000 (American), and the bill states that all New Mexico cars would have to be outfitted with the apparatus by 2009.

Some opposed to the bill say that by adding the machine, those who don't drink and drive are being penalized for no reason

What crock of shit. $US 1,000.00 ???

Will never happen. As soon as they decide to do, someone will invent a canned spray to shoot into tube, to circumvent the purpose. What can they be thinking? :drunk:
