listening to the BBC just a few minutes ago and they had an interview with the British Ambassador.

his comments were that a Ukranian mugged the Guy and was chased and caught by other English Guys and handed over to the Police.

nothing to do with the Football has been linked to the death.

you get travelling thieves anywhere there is going to be a large congregation of people, especially a football tournament where everyone is going to have a lot of cash on them.

According to the reports it was nothing to do with the football. In the sense that it wasnt a football conflict this is true, but the thief and his ilk will have been lured there by the tournament.

Carew,

Apparantly he was stabbed by an Ukrainian thief trying to steal his documents and money.

Nothing to do with hooliganisn or football or Portugal.

Sad that this happens, but it happens everyday and everywhere, why highlighten this one ?

Firstly, I wasn't highlighting anything; merely passing on what was reported on the wire earlier this morning. There is a football tournament in Portugal and some interest has been shown on this board of events there. You may as well ask why the BBC bothered reporting it if it was such an 'everyday' occurence.

But, seeing as opinion and speculation seems to be the order of the day, here's my 2 satangs worth in 2 words: News Management. The source was the British Embassy in Lisbon. Whether or not it was anything to do with football is irrelevant - it's a question of perception: if the England fans believe that one of theirs has been killed by another fan that could spell trouble.
