visa run tips

my second tourist visa this year is used up and i am on the 30 day extension. so based on what i have read, it seems the next thing to do is hit a border every 30 days. any tips for which country to go and how to get there are welcome (from bangkok).

also, i am thinking of going to Phuket at some point. would hitting the Andaman islands be a suitable way to get a 30 day refresh as well?

Aranya Phratet (sp?) About a 4-5 hr trip to the cambodian border, so round trip can be done in one day. Should be companies in BKK that run minibusses and even handled all the paperwork for you for around 2000B inc. cambo. visa.

I know some scuba industry folks in Phuket that regularly make the run to Burma, but I don't think they do it by going to the islands in burma - don't immagine they have an immigration point. (BTW If you're a diver, DO make a trip to the Similans)

ER, if you're just jetting out to jet back in and score a new visa-on-arrival at Don Muang, what diff does it make where you go? Just look at prices to flights to Penang, Kuala Lampur [think I spelled that wrong], Vientiane or PP/Cambodia. Go one the cheapest one and come back next day.

If you're looking for a straight holiday, Vientiane in God's Own Lao Peeps Democratic Republic is a nice town. No hassles, easy to get around, frendly folks, cheap to sleep, good eats. See the Thats, do a little shopping, drink a bit of Beerlao while you peel B-B-Qed river prawns and gaze at the Mekhong...

VTE is probably what some parts of Thailand were like 20 or 30 years ago. I wouldn't know. But it's cool, you can spend your baht there.

FWIW, the average Lao doesn't seem to know they live in a Commie country, or at least you wouldn't know it from the way they operate. This by way of saying there aren't checkpoints on every corner and the tanks [if they got 'em] don't roll in the street.

If anybody thinks it worth the time to read it, I'll write up a report of my non-sanuking trip to the Millionenelephantenland.

Ok, that is exactly the kind of thing I would be interested in. I was hoping someone might have some first hand knowledge.

Hi Rabbit

For the visa run in Poipet(cambodian side of Aranya Pratet)Go to Mo Chit bus station early morning(I go around 8).It's about 160baths 1 way.U drop at the aranya pratet station, take a touk touk to the border(50bths) or a motorcycle(40bths).The Cambodian visa is 1000bths+100 automatic bribe(don't forget to bring along a picture). Then U go stamp in and out.U can give a little more to the khmers

around and U don't have to queue up.They take ur book and bring it back to U swiftly and stamped. They U enter back in Thailand and U can expect to be back in BKK around 8pm.All formalities easy

Many casinos at the border if U r into gambling.

Worldwalker from Phuket they go to Ko Thong in Myanmar, across Ranong.

It sucks a bit to lose a day but here U go for the advices

Luis

If you're travelling to Phuket by land transport you can stop at Ranong / Kra and cross into Burma for US$10 to get your stamp.
