Old Hippie
If a Thai woman has had a visa before, lets say to go to oh let's just say Germany, would that help in her favor to get a visa for the USA? Just wondering, I'm not getting any ideas or anything...
Guest
A lot of variables. What kind of US visa is she aiming for? Does she have solid, verifiable employment? If we're talking about a non-immigrant [fiance/student/working] visa for a bar-girl, I'd say lose the passport and get a new one. Bar-girl and tourist visa, probably doesn't matter anyway. Straight-girl and non-immigrant visa, probably irrelevant there, too. Straight girl and tourist visa, yeah, the old German visa might help a little. Guest
Old Hippie, first an aside. If you're really an old hippie, sad to tell you Ken Kesey is dead. He was 66. If she's travelled before and got back home without going out-of-status in Der Vaterland, it's no worse than having a blank passport. Visa Section will either be mildly pleased or pay it no mind at all. Same would go for a visa from almost any European country with a standard of living better than Thailand; pretty much everywhere but Albania. Guest
although the usa immigration people say every case is decided on its own merits and that previous travel isn't a factor, that isn't always true the key to acessing previous visas is, "how long did she stay?"- in other words, if she had a 90 day tourist visa and she left on the last day or near it, it looks like she may have been working- if she had a 90 day visa and left well ahead of the expiry, then she looks like a tourist- only one foriegn visa doesn't make a case but several of them may show a pattern-
HSTEACH
OH... Whether or not she is issued a B2 visa will be if the consular officer is convinced she has a compelling reason to return to Thailand. That is type of job, length of time at that job, property owned in Thailand, monetary assets tied to Thailand, etc. If she does have reason to return at the end of her visa, she might be issued one. On the other hand, if the CO thinks she might overstay the visa, ie., become an illegal immigrant, get married, etc., the visa will be denied. Grabii
bo, What are you talking about? A tourist (B2) visa is a non-imigrant visa. Old, A German visa in the passport, in and of itself, won't make any difference. Regards, JEff quote: Originally posted by bohicasia: ... Guest
Yup, Jeff, caught me. Couldn't think of a way to distinguish between "going for a real reason" visas and "going to screw around aimleslly" visas. You are, of course, correct. Don't call me "Bo". Thanks.
