Guest
....'People found to be suffering from alcoholism, tubercolosis and leprosy and drug users are not permitted to enter Thailand, according to Pol Capt Nuesen at Phuket Immigration. ' Well, Pol Capt Krissarat Nuesen _failed_ to list another disease which is on the medical clearance certificate, that is needed to obtain a type-O ('retirement') visa. Thai Immigration requires that you also do not have syphilis, but specifically only _3rd stage syphilis_!! Aparently, it is okay to reside in Thailand if you suffer from either 1st or 2nd stage syphilis!! I found this requirement bizarre; guess they don't want farangs who are suffering from syphilitic dementia, but it's okay to spread the disease if you have 1st & 2nd stage. In addition to leprosy, etc, the medical clearance also lists elephantasis. Go figure?

chuckwoww
As Jack says there are various definitions of alchoholism. The law is pretty clear on communicable diseases and drug addiction. Getting into Thailand is still a lot easier than getting into the US.. http://www.mnllp.com/EEpublicchargeinfo.html
