Guest
Back in 1999 I shopped at the duty free in Laos at the Friendship Bridge customs. I was quite surprised at the fine selection of French wines available. Believe it or not, even First Growth Bordeaux was available. The store was airconditioned and the storage seemed fine, however, how the wines were treated enroute it is hard to say. Lots of good inexpensive French table wine though, which is a far safer bet than Chateaux Lafite when you don't know how it's been handled. As well, plenty of Cuban cigars(Monte Cristo, Partagas, H.Upman) if you're into them.
Old Hippie
Rambutan, any idea how the prices were on the Cuban cigars, as compared to BKK?
anonymouse
The bottles of cote de rhone at year 2000 prices were $1.80 from a wine shop in vientienne - which is cheaper than I can buy it in the local supermarket in the UK just across the channel from it's source...beats me! I purchased a 4 pak of Monte Cristo #4's for 18 or 20 US$ I believe. I remember it working out to around $5 a cigar. That's half the price of what they cost up here, not sure about BKK.
