..
I was just banging my head to some old punk CDs in my collection and came across this song that I had forgotten about. It is from Henry Rollins. I think ol' Henry may have had contact with some of the more devious BGs here in LoS when he wrote this (bolding is mine to kinda give the flavour of the song: soft-n-gentle vs loud-n-hard). Liar -- The Rollins Band -- from "Weight" (1994) You think you`re gonna to live your life alone in darkness and seclusion. Yeah, I know, you`ve been out there. Tried to mix with those animals. And it just left you full of humiliated confusion. So you stagger back home and wait for nothing. But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street. And now you`re desperate and in need of human contact. And then, you meet me. And your whole world changes because everything I say is everything you`ve ever wanted to hear. So you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears and you trust me completely. I`m perfect in every way. 'Cause I make you feel so strong and so powerful inside. You feel so lucky, but your ego obscures reality and you never bother to wonder why things are going so well. You wanna know why? 'Cause I`m a liar! Yeah I`m a liar! I`ll tear your mind out -- I`ll burn your soul! I`ll turn you into me! I`ll turn you into me! 'Cause I`m a liar, a liar, a liar, a liar! I`ll hide behind a smile and understanding eyes. And I`ll tell you things that you already know so you can say 'I really identify with you so much'. And all the time that you`re needing me is just the time that I`m bleeding you! Don`t you get it yet? I`ll come to you like an affliction, and I`ll leave you like an addiction! You`ll never forget me! You wanna know why? 'Cause I`m a liar! Yeah I`m a liar! I`ll rip your mind out and I`ll burn your soul! I`ll turn you into me! I`ll turn you into me! 'Cause I`m a liar, a liar, liar, liar, liar, liar!!!!!!! I don`t know why I feel the need to lie and cause you so much pain. Maybe it`s something inside, maybe it`s something I can`t explain. 'Cause all I do is mess you up and lie to you! I`m a liar! Oooohhhhh, I am a liar! If you`ll give me one more chance I swear that I will never lie to you again. Because now I see the destructive power of a lie. They`re stronger than truth. I can`t believe I ever hurt you. I swear, I will never to you lie again. Please, just give me one more chance. I will never lie to you again. I swear. I will never tell a lie! I will never tell a lie! No. No. Ha ha ha ha ha hah! Ho ho ho hooo! Sucker! Sucker! Ooohh, sucker! I am a liar! Yeah, I am a liar! Yeah I like it! I feel good! Ohh I am a liar! Yeah, I lie, I lie, I lie! Oh, I lie! Oh I lie, I lie Yeah! Ohhh I`m a liar! I lie! Yeah! I like it! I feel good! I`ll lie again and again! I`ll lie again and again and I`ll keep lying! I promise hahaha. Cheers, SD
vegasdave49
Yikes. I will never think of that song the same again. An anthem for sure. It should be played full volume to any poor guy who falls for a BG and doesnt understand what they are getting into. Fall for a bar girl, no problem, just be sure it is YOU who is singing this song not them.

Guest
It feels like home.Happy we can sing as well. Here's "Hopeful sinner" from Terrel . I bought the CD a couple of years ago in BKK only because of the cover, but the songs were as good! Funny stuff is I lost it in a car I messed up a couple of months ago...we need to live up our reputation?!? I drank the rivers and the seas. I burned the mountains and the trees. I went too far. I ran too long. Stole the gold from angels song. Washed my star in gasoline. Threw it in a sewer drain. Lied about the only thing that I have ever loved. I broke the hearts of little girls. I solved the problems of the world. I mixed the future with the past. Kicked religion in the ass. Shot another evil man. Took his wife to bed again. I have found the cure for time, but you will have to wait. Hey, don't put me down. I'm a hopeful sinner, drowning swimmer, cheating winner, lying skinner. I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner and I hope I never change. If I can write the history books. If I can learn the secret looks. If I can see the hidden part...the ring of fire around your heart. If I was just an idiot I'd have the sense to ask the "what" To ask the "why" To ask the "who" To question God and question you. Hey, don't put me down. I'm a hopeful sinner, drowning swimmer, cheating winner, lying skinner. I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner, I'm a sinner and I hope I never change. I hid behind the twisted tree and gathered every part of me. I wiped the sweat out of my eyes and stared into the dying skies and then I killed the only thing that I have ever loved. I'm a hopeful sinner, drowning swimmer, cheating winner, lying skinner. I'm a sinner. I'm a sinner. I'm a sinner. I'm a sinner.
Guest
And here's my favourite, still from Terrell: GEORGIA O'KEEFFE Oh, yea, you guessed it, I was drinking in some bar. It was Van and Jack--two friends of mine. We were sitting in the dark and I was waiting. Waiting for the pain to pass. Van was on the radio and Jack was in my glass. Well about the time I hit the bottom this redhead walks in off the street. My heart hit the table. I tried to look discreet. She said "My name is Georgia" I said "Hey baby you sure been on my mind" She said "Hey you're real funny!you ought to call me up sometime" So I called her up and it rang and rang and rang and rang she wasn't home. I sat back down beside her. I said "Oh I should've known. "So you say your name is Georgia?can I call you O'Keeffe?" She said "honey as long as you're buying you can call me anything" We drank a hundred shots of whiskey on the rocks. I tipped the waiter fifty bucks but I stole all the clocks. We stumbled out into the street looking for my car. Looked up and down and north and south, couldn't find it anywhere. Well O'Keefe was walking funny and I was seriously in love. I fell down on the concrete. I still say I was shoved. We caught a cab to Arizona. The desert was immense. I started howling at the moon. The cabby, he got tense. Well he pulled up to a cactus and told me to get out. So I took O'Keeffe and I left the clocks and I headed for the south. Well it only took me about an hour to get to Alabama. I swear I could have proved it, man, but I forgot my camera. Then we toured the southland in a traveling minstrel show. O'Keeffe swallowed baby seals while I played the banjo. Everything was going great man. Everybody was down till one night I got kind of drunk, started playing some James Brown. Well, they chased us through the cotton fields and into the next state where this sign said "You're in Georgia" I said "That's the best news I heard all night!" Well I almost melted from the passion in her eyes. She took off all her clothes and she did not apologize. And I said "Uh, oh...I'm sorry I didn't bring a map?" And she said "Honey don't you worry now this ain't no tourist trap." We made love beneath the stars that fell on Alabama. It was such a pretty picture but I still didn't have my camera. When I woke up O'Keefe was gone and I began to swear. She didn't even leave a note but all her clothes were there. Well I ran all the way back across the United States and I ran back in that bar and I called her on the telephone and luckily she was there and I said "Hey baby how could you do this after all that we've been through?" And she said "Hey, fuck you, man, just fuck you!"
Guest
Hey Suadum I have used those lyrics on Bangkok chat. I fear confusion was the only response they garnered. I'm not a huge fan of Rollins music but I've always respected the "superman" ideal he espouses, to be the best you can be both physically and mentally. Having said that, I absolutely love a song he released before that album called "Low Self Opinion", that possesses a wickedly heavy (yet funky) bassline and some of the most insightful lyrics on self pity you'll ever hear. I think you got a low self opinion man I see you standing all by yourself Unable to express the pain of your distress You withdraw deeper inside You alienate yourself And everybody else They wonder what?s on your mind They got so tired of you And your self ridicule They wrote you off and left you behind You sleep alone at night You never wonder why All this bitterness wells up inside you You always victimize So you can criticize yourself And all those around you The hatred you project Does nothing to protect you You leave yourself so exposed You want to open up When someone says Lighten up You find all your doors closed Get yourself a break from self rejection Try some introspection And you just might find It?s not so bad and anyway At the end of the day All you have is yourself and your mind The self hatred that blinds you Binds you grinds you keeps you down The world falls down around you You build up walls around you You wear disgust like a crown If you could see the you that I see When I see you seeing me You?d see yourself so differently Believe me I know the self doubt that runs inside your mind I know the self that treats you so unkind If you could see the you that I see When I see you You would see things differently I assure you
Guest
I just re-read what I said about Rollins and it embarrassingly reminds me of a line from Zoolander: Hansel: Sting............Sting would be another person who's a hero...... The music that he's made over the years................I don't really listen to, but I respect the fact that he's making it.
soongmak
Excellent lyrics. Listening to a song like this is a great way to kick yourself in the nuts when you're depressed and negative to get out there and do something. I had Rollins pegged down as just another asshole, but I guess he is at least an asshole with something to say. Cheers, soongmak
