ultras67
Just came back from Samet. Its about 3 1/2 hrs on the bus 124B and 100B for the return ferry. For tv in the bungalow you will need to be at the top end of your price range. But there are tvs in lots of bars showing movies in the evenings and sometimes they even dont have a bar next door playing music so you can hear the dialogue. Problem with Samet is it is quite small with nothing else to do on the island - you just cant pop away for a couple of hours to do something. The internal roads are horrible, motorbike hire expensive 120B an HOUR! and the songthaew drivers rip off merchants unless you go to the first two resorts Had Sai Kaew or Ao Pai. And the mosquitoes were teh country kind brought up with all the wholesome food - f@cking large in other words. Almost so large that you didnt swat them, you punched them on the nose. Also at the two places above, the beach gets quite narrow at high tide leaving you no option but to hire one of the deckchairs or move somewhere else. But the beach and sea was still quite clean. Fidel
You can take a minivan from close to the Victory monument, costs 140 baht and takes between 2 - 2.5 hours, direct to Hua Hin. I also like Hua Hin, not very exciting... but nice.

whosyourdaddy
Went to Bang Saen for the weekend. It is the closest beach to BKK ( one hour) ( before Pattaya) It has a three star rating by the phuket college on the state of beaches which is above many beaches. It is really packed with thais on the weekend. Hardly a farang in site. Fairly clean and nice boardwalk
thalenoi
yep and they asked my lonely soul 100 baht to rent a set of beach chairs at Bang Saen. I told the guy I only needed one to drop my arse in, at no avail.... Quiet beach week days though.

whosyourdaddy
You can generally rent one chair but it cant be on the front row near the beach. We rented the set of six for 180b for the day. It was ok. No sense of going to the beach and sitting way back in the tent of umbrellas.
thalenoi
That's fine, but in Pattaya I used to pay 20 baht for one chair, 40 baht for 2 etc....they would just move some chairs around depending on your needs/wishes, not so in Bang Saen.
