What day is 5 A.M.

My flight out of Bangkok was at 5 A.M. on Sunday. On Saturday, my gf asked me,

"Glap prathet muarai?" [What time do you go back home?]

"Prung-nee, tee haa," I answered [tomorrow at 5 A.M.]

"Prung-nee, na?" she said, obviously confused [Tomorrow, huh?]

"Krap. Prung-nee. Wan-athit." [Yes, tomorrow. Sunday]

Apparently, there was something confusing about Sunday 5 A.M. being on Sunday. I did not completely understand her explanation that followed as it was in Thai and a little bit over my head. But it is my impression that she was telling me that what is in reality 5 A.M. tomorrow would be expressed in Thai as "Wan-nee, tee haa."

Can someone explain how this works? In Thai, at what time does "today" end and tomorrow begin?
