HIGH THAIED -

"The remarkable thing about LOS, is the absence of pimps (other than bar owners). Is the same in Brazil? What is the structure there?"

In Brazil there are very few  pimps. The government and police are corrupt but not that corrupt. Prostitution is legal (in its purest form) and a way of life, as it is in the entire world, but the business behind it can get messy as young girls or boys can be recruited and coerced into the business. So the local Brazilian authorities do not allow such things and it is illegal to pimp. The same is the case in Germany, I know. Prostitution is legal there, but the business behind it is not.

But there is always a loophole. In the USA the loophole is making :nono: porn movies. In Thailand it is a :: barfine. In Brazil it is :: paying for drinks or a room to some establishment.

Take Rio de Janeiro, for example. There are freelancer places like the Angel Disco in Nana Hotel (my favorite in BKK). The most famous in Brazil is Help disco :help: right on Copacabana beach. It has the same scheme as Angel Disco, just that they have a much bigger dance floor :yay: and the records stop spinning around 4:30AM. At Help everybody pays to get in - about USD 8 - men and women - and nobody pays anybody on exit. I heard that it started out as a "normal" disco around 1985 and then quickly went bad. But they let everyone in there and I have seen some amazing things. (Once in 2000 I picked up this real cutie there, 19, gorgeous, and we did not talk about the price. I took her home and the next morning I offered to giver her some money. She looked shocked and told me that I should not be doing that, it was wrong, and that she was "of the church" and even left me a small New Testament. My friend later joked to me that she must have been a member of a secret organization - Whores for Jesus). So at Help, you get everything. In Rio there are many discotheques that have some bad girls, but Help is almost totally filled with them.

Then there are bar nightclubs, there are about 30 in Rio, more like gogo's in LOS, and an example is a place like Barbarela in Rio, also in Copacabana, which is premium and has the hottest women and highest prices. This has a system where men visitors must pay for a minimum of two drinks - at USD 16 total - so of course there is an embedded fee in there. Market price for two bar rail drinks might be USD 6. If a girl in there leaves with a customer - which is entirely up to her and the customer - no commissions - then he must pay for her "two drinks" as well. Another USD 16. This is sort of a "bar fine" disguised as drinks. But there is no mamasan in Brazil. Just the waiters and the receptionist - men. The girls show up only on days when they want to. Only thing is the place puts pressure on them to stay there from 11PM until 4AM - unless they leave accompanied of course - otherwise they must pay for their own drinks if they leave before 4AM.

Then there is a third class of places which are more for married men and sometimes married women (working there without their husband or boyfriend's knowledge) - very popular amongst the Brazilians - one example is 4x4 ("4 by 4" on Rua Buenos Aires, 44) in downtown Rio - the "centro." They call them Thermas in Brazil - "Saunas." I hate these places, but many guys love them. There nobody leaves the area - there are a hundred of these in Rio - with all class levels. The rooms are all inside and the Sauna acts as the cash register for all girls. I suppose these places are a little like the massage parlors in BKK, except that there is no fishbowl - instead there is a mingling area packed with girls in bikinis :spin: and guys in white towel sauna robes, everyone walking every which way and chatting and having fun. It is a huge joke and a party and nobody takes it seriously. At exit the men pay for the "room" they used with any girls, and 2/3 of this goes to the girls. But again the "bar fines" are realitively low - the girls are there uncoerced. It is a fair price for the room (the one third that the house keeps). The girls can decide who they want to go with and can refuse if they want.

Hope that answers your question and is what you meant by "structure."

By the way, I am new to this board and just want to make something clear so that there are no misunderstandings. The reason why I have lived in Brazil so long and explored the spot markets for love there, which one might induce from the detailed descriptions above, and the reason why I come to Thailand, is to push the envelope of mankind's understanding of sociology by better understanding mating ritual differences between Brazil and Thailand. It is a sacrifice in the name of science, and I hope that you all appreciate it. Personally, I think I deserve a grant from some foundation to continue my work and studies.

>>to push the envelope of mankind's understanding of sociology by better understanding mating ritual differences<<

Sounds like a mission statement for stateless vagabonds. Where can i sign up?

Brazil sounds like an interesting place. How hard on the wallet? You did not mention what the girls get paid.

It is more expensive I am afraid. Prices about 50% over to 100% over Thai levels for comparable girls.

Over the last five years more and more of the best Brazilians girls get exported quickly to Spain or Portugal. Help disco is owned the the Spanish mafia (or so I am told...) and they use it as a recruiting ground. A new talented girl shows up and within a week or two she already has an offer to go to Spain or Portugal.

Another trend has been more tourists. Help disco was even mentioned once on the Late Night show with Conan O'Brien a year ago (or so I am told). Many US tourists go there and have driven prices up and up and up. They come for a week and think nothing of paying 200 dollars US. I have seen NFL players in there.

But this impacts mainly Rio and mainly the area around Copacabana, which is the only really safe place if you are a newbie. But go inland a ways and the prices are comparable to Thailand.

As for a comparison on the GFE, well, I will have to get that grant or keep on plugging away on my own to find the solution. Will be in Thailand in a week and stay for a month for more sacrifices. Maybe will make some important discoveries.

I am thinking Nobel Prize here... :chili: :chili: :chili:

To try and stay on the focus of this post, I should say that there are a number of older girls that seem to do very well in Brazil. They definitely have their niche carved out. And they have enthusiastic customers.
