Torneyboy
What a great idea these school camps are!! Our boy just got back from a three day year six camp. Went on a three hour bus trip north to a seaside camp site. Five to a hut...went swimming, flying fox, canoeing, walks, beach cricket and a heap of games and fun . The year six teachers went along as well as any parents that could go as well to help out. (my wife couldn't get away from her restaurant...good) She did however fill his bag with goodies to get by on! The food was ok he said...BBQ sausages,fruit,spaghetti..he got on ok. No mobile phones were allowed to be taken by the students...had our teachers number and VV...she asked him everday if he wanted to talk to mom....no i am fine he told her(i called as the bus was late and she told me this btw). The best part of all....he had to speak in English day and night..(at home it is Thai ,Thai and Thai)..as much as i try to help ..she still talks to him in Thai A really great time was had by all....did not have these bonding camps when i was going around..a good idea..IMO

Guest
MY daughter came back from camp ( St johns school, bkk) and came down with malaria ( several kids got it from the same trip) I think they were quite stingy with the insect repellant. ( staying in huts by the beach "thay style") just got the bill from Phay thai2 hospital 21,385bt quite an expensive excursion

We had a check list and all had their own insect spray along with other stuff.

" Thanks for the concern: she is ok now, but was pretty sick, tough on a small kid ( 7 years) I think it wold be tough on any teachers/staff to make sure 6&7 year old kids keep their spray on. no blame here, just the way it goes. ( but more likely to happen in thailand I think)
