What did you do for Valentine's Day with your TL?

All,

So what did you guys with Thai wives, GF's do IN Thailand for/with your ladies? Anyone have an anecdote or story or experience to share with us all?

I came back to Surin early Monday morning from Bangkok and for Valentine's Day took the wife and family out to a nice restaurant (Bah Na) which is situated on a huge lake/reserviour where the Queen mother has a cool season residence overlooking the water. Nice open air place with great foods for a great price. A bottle of Black, all the fixings, and an enormous amount of delicious food came to just over 2,000 baht for ten of us. I had brought a nice red satin covered heart shaped box of chocolates from the states for the occasion, plus a mushy card that said some things that were guaranteed to give me a pleasant ValDay evening later with my wife. (The Black and chocolate helped as well. :) ) Great atmosphere in this open air restaurant, and nice cool steady breezes off the water made for a pleasant evening for all. A friend of the family who came along who is the head teaching nurse for the hospital here and whose daughter is our daughter's best friend has excellent English reading, writing and spoken skills read the card in Thai in translation, doing a good job of it in a poetic and mushy voice which had all the ladies laughing and in tears at the same time. The words were heartfelt and said what I wanted to say. Needless to say, the card was a hit and went over well, along with the Black and chocolates for dessert. I gained many points and much "face" for that mushy lovey dovey goddamned card guys. It was deemed pak wan mahk mahk. Plus as an added present I paid for a long hair salon session with nails and foot massage and such for a relaxing afternoon for the wife to primp and groom herself with. All totaling less than 4,000 baht, and baht well spent I'd say. Had a very happy bride and entourage and a very pleasant evening out and in.

So what did all you Valentine's lovers do yourself and how did things go for you all? Amazing the way the Thais will latch on to any farang holiday that suits them isn't it? :D :: The west infects the east more and more with these commercial aspects of our western culture, no matter these holidays are Christian in origin.

So let's hear it gents. What did you guys do?

Hi Cent,

I bought some red roses and I did the dishes last night....... :p

As for valentines' day being of Christian origin, there is indeed a martyr called St Valentine, but the Romans already exchanged names to give sweetheart presents for the god Pan. Nothing new under the sun......

BB,

How much did the roses cost you there in Belgium!? :: (I know in the states they are quite expensive!) Hope you and your lady had a nice time. Yeah, a lot of the supposed Christian holidays are actually in fact pagan holidays dressed up in Christian theology. The Catholics are crafty bastards that way aren't they? :) There was something I read just the other day where one of the asian countries around here actually made a law or edict that the citizens weren't to celebrate this christian holiday as it was unseemly and of western origin and not right for the people to follow these western religious celebrations. Forget which country it was offhand now.

So, what did your lady get for you? I got a red rose and a card and a good night of sex! A nice trade-off I felt this was. :) There are worse holidays I think. Nothing wrong with one day a year to celebrate your love for each other in a special way in my mind. Though the capitalists have really beat the hell out of Valentine's Day with their endless commercialism, same with Xmas and the rest. It turns a lot of people off to the whole thing really I feel.

Cent,

Actually I think Valentine's day is a commercial rip-off ! All is so hyped and so expensive that it borders stupidity.

Like secretary day or mom's day..... whatever it is, it is getting ridicule IMO.

We both agreed to love each other daily, not once a year, but yes I bough her some flowers, I do that at least once a month, cost me only about 420 Bt, she send me flowers per e-mail :D

No flowers here, as wife told me before that she would kick my ass if I bought her flowers or would dare to send some to her office. In her eyes a massive rip off. She told me that they charged yesterday around 800 Baht for some roses around Thong Lor.

But I went to her favourite restaurant with her, and got her 2 Norah Jones Tickets for next months concert. I knew she would love to go. As she didn`t even know that she would give a concert in BKK, it was a double surprise to her.

After that we met up with many friends (their tradition), and had a great night out.

And now I am knackered... ::

I had the valentine "treat" of a lifetime. Some Isaan girls brought me to one of those isaan places in Bangkok with live isaan music, food, dance, and such. They made the orders and when the food arrived, I was happily enjoying a singha draft in one hand and a lot of familiar isaan dishes from the other and saw one that from my vantage point in the dark looked a bit like spicy minced squid salad that some here would know as yam pla moog. Anyway, I thought cool, and grabbed a spoon of it and I noticed it didn't have that crunchy squid texture, but rather was soft. It was also sweet and not sour. Tasted ok, so I said what the hell is that anyway. I heard the word bug in Thai and that's when in horror I focused in the dim light and saw the "squid" was actually large, nearly 1 cm long, white, raw ant larvae!!! It wasn't long before my stomach said "no mas" to that one. Haven't had such a surprise since the dancing shrimp.
