Certainly not like most large cities in America. There is no 'rich' section there. One of the most glaring impressions I had when first went there 15 years ago, was that you have object poverty right next to multi-million baht mansions, all over the city. And I think is a large part of it's alore (sp?). You never know what you are going to find around the next corner. And makes the quote of "Amazing Thailand" ring true much more often, than not.
