asiafun
The Nation http://202.60.196.117/breaking/read.php?lang=en&newsid=99909 Lumpini blast Published on Dec 08 , 2005 A small bomb exploded yesterday in a telephone booth near Lumpini Park in an area thought to be quite a distance from where Sondhi Limthongkul conducts his weekly anti-government rallies, police said. No one was injured in the blast, which occurred at dawn behind Lumpini School. Darongsak Janeketkorn, a security guard at the park, said the explosion sounded like a power transformer. Pol Lt-General Viroj Chantarangsi, city police commissioner, said the bomb was made from a low-power dynamite used in fireworks. Lumpini police said after an initial investigation the bomb was probably not meant to hurt anyone. Viroj said the bomb had nothing to do with Sondhi's "Thailand Weekly" show, which attracts large crowds at the park every Friday. Surakiat Limchareon, director of Pathum Wan district, said the culprit wanted to cause damage rather than kill anyone. "It is fortunate that the explosion did not hurt anyone, but I will coordinate with parents and teachers to protect their children," he said. Parents were concerned about the situation yesterday and decided against sending their children to school. Meanwhile, a small bomb was found in front of the Ratchada building on Ratchadaphisek road a few hours before the Lumpini bomb exploded. Police believe the culprit may have been angry with an official working at the building. Police said they believe the bomb was left by a group of aggressive teenagers who have yet to give their demands. However, they pointed out that the Ratchada Building, which now belongs to Chang Beer, was formerly owned by Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra, wife of the prime minister. rickfarang
Very puzzling. The story, as written does little to help the reader make sense of it.

Coss
"However, they pointed out that the Ratchada Building, which now belongs to Chang Beer, was formerly owned by Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra, wife of the prime minister." You probably can't spit in Bangkok without hitting a property owned by someone either in power, previously in power or related to someone in or out of power. asiafun
I think this idea from the police makes the least sense of all: "Police said they believe the bomb was left by a group of aggressive teenagers who have yet to give their demands" Demands for what? Motocycles with more fiery racing stripes? Nokia cell phones with 3.0 megapixel cameras? Free sex change operations for their gender challenged friends? I would think if anything made sense it would be a little warning from one public individual to another. If that is the case would that not qualify as an escalation? Khun_Kong
Only 80,000 attended, up from 50,000 the 2 weeks before, but nowhere near the 500,000 Sondhi wanted. Now, I'm not saying it's related to the blasts, but... And WTF is with that police statement about teenagers? JesusFrigginChrist!
