enigma
Singapore (dpa) - Two Thai women including a drug ringleader were jailed for up to six-and-a-half years in Singapore, news reports said Tuesday. Nipaporn Ton-Sai, 28, pleaded guilty to importing 5.58 grams of cocaine on December 5 at Changi Airport, and for trafficking in 3.8 grams of ice the following day. Included in the sentence was a one-year term for possession of 1.27 grams of cannabis, according to The Straits Times. Her accomplice, Angkana Kraphutta, 30, was jailed for five-and-a- half years for importing 5.57 grams of cocaine and possessing a drug utensil. The two share an apartment and admitted Monday in court that they brought the cocaine to Singapore from Bangkok. Nipaporn was described as the ringleader. After arresting the two women, the Central Narcotics Bureau nabbed 14 people in a sting operation. Eleven - seven Thais, two Britons, a Japanese and a Singaporean - were charged with drug offences. rickfarang
Yes, they got a soft treatment, though prison in Singapore is no picnic. Unlike many before them, these two will live to recount their experiences.
tyefit
They sure did. I can only guess that they got soft treatment for grassing up the rest of the gang. Dealing even small amounts of cocaine and ice in Singapore will usually get you a date with the gallows.
Guest
Surely 5.5 gramswould be classes as personal stuff? By'eck, thats a night out! How can 14 people be involved in just 5.5 grams of cocaine?
Whitney
Damn, it says right on the Customs & Immigration form that you fill in before landing in Singapore, in red, at the bottom: Death to drug traffickers from what I remember. I guess these people have a death wish, or just don't care.
Vintage_Kwai
I think you get the necktie party if you have twenty grams of hard drugs like cocaine or 200 grams of soft drugs like cannabis. Any less than that, you're considered a user (as opposed to trafficker).
