Flashermac
The kids stealing coins is nothing new at Loy Krathong. Back in the 1970s the little barstewards would be lurking out of sight to ambush your krathong for the big one baht coins we used to put in them. The brighter of the lot would steal the entire krathong, dry it out and try to sell it to somebody else! Now the idea is that if your krathong keeps burning until it drifts out of sight, you'll get your wish. Of course, that means it is supposed to be in a river. Floating it in a pond is itself a perversion of the holiday. We used to float them in the Nan River -- after making sure the thieving little sh*ts weren't around. Flashermac
Wan Loy Krathong ... first Thai song the PC taught us to sing, along with the ramwong to dance to it. p.s. Someone has translated the words into English -- and they really are irritating!
