The government will not intervene in petrol prices and electricity fees but will let them move in line with the market, according to Somkid Jatusripitak, the caretaker deputy prime minister and commerce minister.

However , the government has moved to help cushion the impact of high oil prices on selected sectors such as farming, fisheries and small enterprises.

The energy and transport ministries agreed yesterday to cut diesel prices by one baht per litre for public buses, privately owned buses operating under licence with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority and The Transport Company, as well as for mass-transit boats.

Diesel fuel sold for agricultural use would also be reduced in price by one baht per litre.

So what Thaksin's boy is saying is: "we won't interfere with the market, because that goes against our principals, of market forces." but what also seems to be happenning could be summed up as: " but not to change the prices would fcuk us up, so we'll change the prices to keep the economy alive whilst still proclaiming that we won't interfere and every one can see the Market is working in an unfettered way".

Or have I missed something?

This really is Thailand...

Cheers
