I see Laos, a lot different.

I am with a Laos Girl... Spent Several weeks, there. About 6 trips, in all, 3 to 7 days each. She needs her visa stamp and a visit home, from time to time.

Food, not the quality of Thai, I think, good food of any kind, hard to find. I am a very picky eater, however.

Nightlife, is much different and hard to find, but it is there... Go to the large bars, across from the Novetel, there are 3. Plenty of action Pay for Play. Different, operation than Thailand, you sit down, and the MaMa, will bring a few out for you to select. THe girl is there to drink and be companion, but will go, as well. Small money, just a couple hundred baht for a companion hour. Actually you do not have to buy her a drink, but, who wants to be a cheap charlie. Anou Hotel, intown, have ladies willing, as well, in the lounge. Got to find one that speaks, English, not so easy, less than 50% for sure, companion rent, is only about 100 baht an hour. Will go with you, you gotta make your own deal.

Also, there are local places, near the river, up stream, west I guess, past the university. Girls there, but not farang oriented.

I was in Laos for about 9 months last year. Lived in Vientiane. Great place, I really miss it. It really is the most laid back place I've been.

Sunset beers at Sunset Bar by the river, late drinks at the Samlor, which is an "english pub" with pool table, dart board, great music, some weird freelancers and lots of Katoeys. Draft Bia Lao in a large glass... 32 baht.

Down to the Bar Bias, the "escort bars", they're really not used to Farang, these places are aimed at the locals.. but they're cheap and good fun.

Plenty of weed. Great food, Steak and chips for 3 and half bucks beside the National Stadium.

Plus some of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen.

I have some good friends there who know their way around and are usually up for a laugh...

  • 1 month later...

Loved it. I spent about 10 days there. The pace is very slow and of course the BG scene is practicaly non existant. With that said the people were friendly and it was like going back in a time machine. I rented a moto and traveled around. It was a real adventure. The scenery was some of the most spectatular Ive seen. I think the key is to understand that this is not Thailand. It is its own place with its own pace and way of doing things. I found it to be a delight.

I had a great few days in Vientiane earlier this year. Massage seemed to be more thourough than the Thai equivelent. Excellent Baguettes/Paté and wine to be had too.

Good french restaurant to visit:

Le Silapa, 19/1 Sihom road, Ban Haysok, Vientiane.

t: (856-21) 21 96 89

I do recommend renting a moped to check the place out and get about. If you've got some time go up to Vang Vien about 4hrs north by bus from Vientiane beautiful countryside well worth the visit.
