rodin
I think the Crawley accent probably has more to do with South London estates than Sussex. Being built to house London overflow after the war it still seems distinctly different from other Sussex towns. If Haywards Heath is supposed to be the heart of midsussex then Crawley is the.... You seem to know the area well...Can I ask how?
chuckwoww
I lived in Horley when Gatwick was still a racecourse. That dates me eh? Went to school in Reigate.
rodin
Well according to Wikepedia Gatwick aerodrome was built in the 20's and commerical flights started in 1934 so yeah that dates you!
chuckwoww
That's true but it was a racecourse before that which was abandoned after WW2 when it was used for Spitfire maintenance. After that it was a race course again. Look mate...you're talking to a bloke who used to play in the old control tower.

sayjann
oh dear.......Sussex....... a County full of inbreds bordered by 2 fine Counties. Hampshire and Kent......... i was raised in Hampshire but the old Family came from Kent. the quickest way from between the 2 Counties was through Sussex and that was scary..... drive along the A27 or any other road and stop off at any rest stop and it was like 'The Hills Have Eyes'....... you walk in and the noise died away and all eyes were/are turned towards towards you........ give me Kentucky anyday........ chuckwoww
Horley, where I grew up, was just in Surrey 'ectually'. I agree about Hampshire....a fine county but getting a little overbuilt. Kent was always a foreign country to me.
