Scotch in Thailand,

What's the chances of that cheap 'scotch' we see on shop shelves actually coming from Scotland. My mate swears it's from India. I did a google on my preferred brand, High Comissioner, and saw it available in the UK for Pound 2.68 a bottle. Surely they couldn't sell it with 'made and bottled in Scotland' on the label if it wasn't. I buy it in Burma for 390 baht a 2 litre bottle.

Interestingly the hugely popular Hundred Pipers revealed no clues to it's source.

I think that these scotch whiskys really come from Scotland, but AFAIK in most cases bottled in Asia, maybe Thailand or Burma or India.

Who buy those low quality products I've never found out, the thais I know never drink anything cheaper than Black Label/Chivas. :)

I've seen "Scotch" for sale that has allegedly been made in France. Huh?

A neighbour gave me a bottle of Whytehouse. It says it is blended whisky ... mixed with Indian spirits! Pretty bad on its own, but drinkable if mixed with coke or whatever.

p.s. One NEVER mixes good booze with anything! Save the mixing for the cheap crap.
