JannikOJ
I did actually chat with a couple of girls in one of the discos whom i think was game. But its mostly a thai weekend hangout. Its a charming place with a real lazy feel to it. I would choose it over Hua Hin any day.
ThaiHome
Koh Samed sounds like a good option for you. Great beaches and not crowded. Takes 3-4 hours in a minivan from BKK. Many Bangkok youths go there for the weekend. So i thought it was going to be a wild party but no. I was very surprised how well behaved they were. They even swim fully clothed. Just plain weird! What the pick up a girl situation in KO Samet? I was there with a girl before so didnt get to find out' date=' but it did nt seem very encouraging, but then again this is Thailand. [/quote'] Koh Smaet - slim to non-existent. If you read the OP you have to agree that one of the hotels on Jomtien beach road are probably what he is actually looking for. Try the Silver Sands. I agree, not very encouraging due to the lack of selection and the ones available, well, I`d rather give it a miss. But there is a very popular beach bar at Ao Phai, that doesn`t close until the wee hours. Very popular with thai tourists from the mainland, we had a ball here chatting with locals girls from Rayong, exchanged phone numbers etc. cheers hn
sconner007
Thanks everyone for the replies! A lot to think about and consider. This will be my first trip and I'm going to be escorted by my little brother who went there not too long after 9/11. He didn't visit any of the beach resorts though and just stayed in BKK. This will be my first International trip and don't feel too comfortable traveling solo on something like this, so I insisted he came. Needless to say. it didn't take too much convincing. Thanks again!
BJ_Blackowitz
Phuket: 2.5 hours* Hua Hin: 3.5 hours *granted if you are going all the way to patong' date=' this will go over 3 hours. [/quote'] LMAO, airport to airport only. You need an hour on each end for both airport transfers and hope the flight is on time as well. I can fly to HH from BKK in 40 Mins 10 mins to be downtown HH, or take the bus/taxi takes 3 hrs As for costs A VERY decent meal 4 Persons with a total of 10 dishes, 5 Bottles of Beer, some wine, can be had for 1800bt if you know your way around. that is under 500bt per person. AC Room hotel with pool, 1000-1200 bt if you know your stuff. 2 mins from the beach, 2 mins to the bars when comming only for the girls: you will get bored in 2 days.. Pattaya : From Suk road about 1.5 to 2 hrs by road Rooms: cheap and good Beach Stinks. Bars Rock MP / GFE : Up 2 U
Sukhumvit
Koh Samet's alright. Nice water. Scenic. Pleasant place to relax. Was at least one outdoor disco when I was there. Couple of beach bars. BYOB though. Normally a fair sprinkling of backpackers to hang with and play ping pong in the Naga Bar at night. Yippee. Koh Sichang is closer. Not a great deal there. You'll probably be the only westerners on the island. Even though it's relatively close to Bangkok. When I was there with two guys one had thoughtfully brought his own lady from Soi Cowboy. She rang up a couple of other girls who made the trek out to stay with us. Only a couple of places to stay. Fishing is the big industry. Couple of karaoke bars but no western bars. No watersports or hire facilities. If you can swim then that's about it. Oh there's also the remains of one of the long dead kings former summer palace. We met one other westerner who was having a boat built there and he told us of an elderly guy who was dying in the island clinic.
