Not that anyone cares as this is an older thread but thought I would update it for accurate and up to date information for anyone who may experience an overstay.

I finally left Thailand on July 23rd, 171 days after I entered. I checked in with the airline without incident and proceeded to passport control. The officer (female, not that it matters a whole lot) took my passport and did her thing. She looked at me and I said, "Yes, I know I had an overstay". In perfect in English and a condesending smile she says "A half a year?"

I was passed on to her supervisor and led to a desk behind them. I was asked for 20k baht, given a receipt, passport was stamped and I was on my way.

Other than the embarassment and nervousness, the 20k is all that was required. No cops called, no alarms sounded. Just pay the fine and on your way.

I also understand, the extra 141 days does not count against the 90/180 rule, so I still just have 30 days against that policy and should be able to go back tomorrow, if I wished. Any firm info here would be appreciated.

I have overstay twice (both under 10 days) over different years (same passport), they usually put a comment above the visa stamp which you arrive on (mine was visa on arrival). I also got an extention visa in between these penalty payments(when crossing the boarder), besides the comments and paying the extra money. I have never been held up or questioned coming or going. So presume that the comments are only in your passport and not on their system.
