samak
yes those 3 were front runners also during the last couple of years. Dhanin's family is owner of CP Group (among others also 7-11 and Lotus Stores), which are also very successful in China and other countries of Asia
ThaiHome
I think 7-11 and Tesco-Lotus (which I think it dumped in 2003) are very minor businesses. The corporation turnover in the year 2005, topped US$13 billion. TH
elef
Robinson, Tops and Watson are some of the companies. British Tesco owns Tesco Lotus and it's not mentioned any longer on Central Group's homepage but somebody told me that they still are running it, same with Carrefour according to my source. ThaiHome
Thought we were talking about the CP group (which use to be partners in Tesco Lotus) owned by the Chearavanont family not the Central Group owned by the Chirithivat family (which owns the brands you list in Thailand, except Carrefour, which I think the french do themselves). Is your source confused? TH
elef
Sure you're right about CP and Central. I just answered about what I knew about Tesco Lotus. Tesco Lotus is owned by a british group and Carrefour by a french - but they have thais to run if for them and unoffically it's the Central Group. ThaiHome
If Central Group is running it, why then is a farang the CEO and the Chairman of the Board the president of C.P. Land Co. Ltd.? TH
samak
Lotus in Thailand are a JV of Tesco and CP. Tesco intends to buy out CP for the Lotus stores in China, but i have not heard anything, that they intend to do the same in Thailand
