The issue for me is not living with herpes or HPV (genital warts). You're right that these things are not fatal and the symptoms are a nuisance. The problem is that it becomes your responsibility to tell every sex partner afterwards you have it. Or... you could be a classless jerk and not tell people because you are taking meds.
