ChristianTroy
So you coming earlier as you told me yesterday?
Straycat
Now, I have no idea what was up at Nana last night but May 5 is a special day in Thailand (His Majesty the King was crowned on May 5, 1950).
David99UK
I would have thought putting the new airport in a place that is more conveniant for Pattaya and a PITA for Sukhumvit would do more to finish off Nana Plaza than any official policies. Plus to be honest from my recent visits the nature of P4P in the visible parts of BKK has changed fundamentally since my first visits from GFE being more the norm (even if only short period) to being more out and out commercial - and IMO you do not need something the like Nana to run this from - MP's and Escort delivery works better. IMO sooner or later the site will get sold for offices / condos, purely because of the site value - when? fuck knows, maybe take a generational shift in the owning family?? Will surely impact a lot of nearby businesses (Restaurants and shopping) associated with Mr P4P Farang. Apart from the cheapish hotels (whose reason for existence IS the P4P punter, even if not actually S/T hotels) IMO lower Sukhumvit really has nothing going for it as a holiday destination, at least for repeated or extended visits apart from being on the Skytrain route.......but it is a long skytrain. Will Patpong survive? I am sure cos' it is internationally recognised and also as a family freindly place to visit fairly central for Tourists to explore BKK from (but cannot say getting their from the new airport is something I would want to keep doing). The very naughty bits may well have to be done more "less in yer face" (i.e your chosen freind will not be allowed to urinate on you in a bar whilst completely naked :smirk:) but sure as shit the more fun stuff (and no doubt worse) will still go on, albeit behind closed doors in MP's etc.
pghguy
The reason for closing at 1 a.m. recently quite possibly is because the U.N. Global Warming Conference was being held in bangkok for the past week or so. This conference has generated alot of international press so the thais have probaly been trying to make the nana area a little less of a zoo late at night during the conference. bibblies
I may be speaking in hope but something doesn't quite add up about the 'knocking Nana and SC down to build hotels' theory. If Nana and SC aren't there, why would anyone really want to stay in Sukhumvit? I'd say that the real estate values around there are high precisely because of p4p. The shopping is shit and can be done better in many places - Pratunam, MBK, etc. And, if the hotel's simply a place to stay in Bangkok for tourists to see the 'nice' sights, there must be many cheaper places to build that are closer to such sights (across the river, for example). (Of course, this is logic which may not apply in Thailand. )

WorldFun
Right closing the inside zoo earlier so the outside zoo can enjoy longer 'showing' hours what a brilliant idea to 'hide' the political incorrect bits of thailand LOL. Oh & boy did that UN climate conference manage to shut the hefty 22 thai host delagation up for good except for that single lame comment of gulf of thailand as unaffected to the rising sea levels as they have monitored falling levels last 8 years & apart from that LOS is too far from the arctics to be affected
OCgringo
the Nana Plaza property . corner is worth big money because of the Skytrain, any Hotel with that kind of access will do well. I guess the question is to you want the short money or the long money , I am sure their monthly income is pretty good along with the "key" money. My guess is that it will stay as is , because the owners are smart and are making big $$$$$ already OC
Encore
As long as there are empty lots like the ones on either side of Soi 6, I cannot see the value of the land Nana sits on. Thos two plots near Soi 6 have been 'empty' (well, unfinished buiding as long as I;ve been coming here.
itsmedave
I wonder if the land would be as valuable if Nanaplaza were gone. Many folks stay in the area due to its proximity to the naughty nightlife. Take away the nightlife...and what are you going to do in lower Sukhomvit?
