Anyone ever see Andy Griffith as a standup comic? He was good! So was Jonathon Winters at his best.
Faustian
Richard Pryor (before his addictions took their toll) Ben Elton (before fame took it's toll as he has since become really quite insipid) Billy Connolly (before the therapy, aka his wife, about 10 years ago) Jay Leno (as he has a vicious wit, even if he is an arrogant sob)

MooNoi
Ronnie Corbett Ronnie Barker What a loss to the world of comedy Ronnie Barker was. One of the cleverest comedians ever to grace the stage, the screen and a type-writer. Ronnie Corbett wasn't a patch on Ronnie Barker IMHO. I remember seeing a sketch on the Two Ronnies one time where Ronnie Barker was reading the news, as he usually did each episode. However, at the start of this particular "news bulletin" he announced that there had been a problem with the BBC Newsroom type-writer and all "e"'s had been typed as "o"'s.... he then proceeded for the next 5 minutes reading a new bulletin based on this fact changing e's to o's... it was totally hilarious. One of the best! (Not to mention "The Phantom Raspberry Blower" miniseries!) Can't remember a dud series he was in - Open All Hours, Porridge etc... they were all comedy classics. Don't think we'll see the likes on Ronnie Barker again in a hurry.
