wonderlust
While browsing for information I read this website which suggests these rapid tests do test for all the most common strains of HIV, including the one most common in Thailand. http://www.avert.org/hivtypes.htm

elroy
You mentioned you picked up the bioline test kit for 300 Baht. Did you buy it in Bangkok? If so, where?

longwoodguy74
No test will give you 0% false negatives. However, the rapid tests are designed to be more likely to test falsely positive than to test falsely negative. The idea being that it is better to scare someone temporarily with a false positive than it is to miss a true positive. All positive tests need to be confirmed with more involved testing.
