..
So anyone been there? What's the easiest way to get there (from I assume Shanghai Pudong airport)? Taxi, train, bus, bicycle, oxen cart? Anything to do once you are there? Cheers, SD
maninbkk
Suzhou is about one and a half hours by train from Shanghai central station; cost about 20rmb depending on class. Buses from the airport to Suzhou run during the day, taking about 2 1/2 hours; it could work out faster than the train if you arrive at the airport as you avoid the trip into Shanghai (which is about 11rmb and 1 hour by bus). Plenty of temples and gardens in Suzhou, but in my experience once you have seen two or three, they all look much the same. Further information on wikitravel at http://wikitravel.org/en/Suzhou Suzhou is much quieter than Shanghai if you want a break from that city, however I prefer Hangzhou which is larger, has a nice lake and is also about 90 minutes (on a fast train) from Shanghai. Direct buses also to Hangzhou from Shanghai Pudong airport.
