Soi11
My mom has a huge avocado tree that is bearing fruit. I was thinking about bringing some to Thailand to give to friends, but was told that they are one the prohibited list. Tried doing numerous searches, but couldn't find a definitive answer. Anyone know it you can bring them in legally? Anyone know what the fine is if you get caught? Thanks
Central Scrutinizer
Soi 11, You can buy avacados in Big C now I have seen. I wouldn't take the chance of getting caught going through customs for a few avacados really. Why? The cost and hassle would be more than it was worth if you are singled out. Vintage_Kwai
Lots of avocados being sold from roadside stalls around the Khao Yai area along the route to Khorat, why wait for the tree to grow?
CTO
Mainly because they are no where as good as those from Byron Bay area in Australia for example, I am thinking of asking for avocado's instead of pistachio's next time but I doubt they travel that well. rickfarang
I know how much the maximum fine is, but I remember reading (perhaps it was on the immigration form they gave me on the airplane on the way in), but the maximum sentence for smuggling plants and produce is two years in prison. Not something to muck around with for a few dollar's worth of avocados.
