I've taught former AFS students who went to places like Denmark, Germany or Guatemala not speaking a word of the language used there' you don't need to speak the language. i don't speak French,German,Italian,Spanish etc but i can easily walk into a shop with a basket and pick up bread/butter/meat/cheese/jams etc and then walk to the checkout and pay for it. and i can do all that without saying a word. he seems a right prat to me who has no idea how to do anything for himself. i bet his Mum irons his y-fronts.
