Clashes mar Olympic torch relay

I am surprised that some people say that they don't know what's going on, since this is known since many years:

- The country is flooded whit Han Chinese with the aim to make the Tibetans a minority.

- Tibetan culture is destroyed systematically, some call it a cultural genocide.

- The Tibetans don't any political or human rights at all

- The nature is plundered systematically, especially the forests are cut down. Whole Asia will pay for this, since important rivers originate from there.

The Chinese might or might not have rights on Tibet, but this doesn't justify the oppression of a whole nation and the erasure of a several thousand years old culture, especially since the leader the Dalai Lama does not demand indepence but a justified autonomy under Chinese rule.

When Hitler did such things it was bad. But Stalin got away with it, and so have the Chinese. Different rules for different countries?

:dunno:

rougeyam no i'm not an expert you appear to be the one here of high breeding/education so you tell me :content: , i just would like to know some genuine back ground to the china/tibet story. i just dont see how waving banners around and trying to grab the olympic flame is of any benefit to the cause whatever it maybe.

flash if china trading with sudan is so awful then why does everyone trade with china, we are in that chain that trades the sudanese. aboriginal cultures were butchered by europeans in the americas, the caribean, australia, new zealand and others so i doubt the chinese value western hypocracy.

A couple of years ago, a nice Chinese gal started a conversation with me at Immigration in Soi Suan Plu. Her English was so good I thought she must be Singaporean, la. But no, she was from Beijing. She was university educated and quite westernised. When I mentioned Mao, she said when she was a child everyone carried the book and praised his name. Nowadays, nobody cared about Mao and nobody believed in communism. Unfortunately, the old farts who DO believe still run the country. Note that the present head of the PRC is the very fellow who as governor of then recently occupied Tibet was so hard on the Tibetans. Sort of like putting a Klansmen in charge of a black township. What do you expect?

What we did in the past doesn't count. We are supposed to know better now. But the PRC doesn't seem to realise the rules have changed.

p.s. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. The western powers built their colonial empires overseas, far from their borders. China built its empire by conquering its neighbours. The west has given up its colonies (except the lightly populated ones we took over). China insists that it is the rightful owner of its conquered neighbours and what it does to them is nobody else's business. But compare China to the former Russian empire. With the fall of the USSR, Russia had to give most of the conquered nations. China's solution is a tranfer of population - filling the non-Chinese regions with Chinese settlers. The UN Charter on Human Rights says this is illegal (even though the writers of the charter did it themselves in 1945).

the Police seemed heavy handed at times.

whatever the right and wrongs of the protesters actions, brutality cannot be condoned.

i saw film of one Oriental Girl who tried to grab the torch and was set about on by 4/5 cops and roughly pushed to the ground and physically assaulted IMO.

i saw at least 2 truncheon blows landing.

That's to show her English justice is much better than Chinese.

p.s. WTF are CHINESE SECURITY doing escorting the torch through London? I saw the torch procession for the Atlanta Orympics, even got caught up in it for a while. No security at all except for some local cops.

:hmmm:
