Flashermac
The looting I'm talking about wasn't captured weapons. More like taking everything that wasn't tied down - plus everything that was, cleaning out shops, private homes, government buildings in both "liberated" countries and Germany. chelseafan
Ooooh yes, it was a beretta (later walther), my mistake, which is stupid cos I am reading the books at the moment (highly recommended)
sayjann
i read the Fleming novels in the 70's and several were 60's editions, falling apart now. i finally got round to reading the article i posted and was surprised at 3 things. i always thought that 'You Only Live Twice' was the last Fleming novel as the ending has the premise of Bond losing his memory but having vague memories of Russia and deciding to travel to Russia...of course never to return. but it seems that 2 Novels were published afterwards, perhaps after Fleming's death?. and some of the newer Films i thought were made up stories but it seems they were based on Novels by other Writers. Julian2
They must really hate a lot of those James Bond flicks. In the early books his protagonist was Smersh, a particularly nasty branch of the KGB. Later he took on Spectre, an international criminal organisation. Their evil employees came from over the place. My favorite James Bond movie is "From Russia With Love", which leaves you in no doubt who the bad guys are.
Julian2
Only looting my father ever talked about was the looting he did. He took an automatic pistol off of a dead German. It was a Smith and Wesson, I believe in 38 calibre format. My Dad got a nice set of liqueur glasses out of an Italian villa near Monte Casino. In terms of titles, all the films so far have either been novels or short stories (or passing references) by fleming, even the new one due out - Quantum of Solace - is a short story from the novel For your eyes only. So far (and I havent finished reading them yet), all the moore/connery films are representive of the books with the exception of The Spy Who Loved me. I also exclude never say never again as this was a Thunderball ripoff
chelseafan
Oooh and in terms of films, I have to The Spy Who Loved me was my favourite, Barbara Bach was stunning... Casino Royale probably tops that now as its the first film to 'humanise' bond and follows the book exceptionally well....
