gawguy
I would like to store some photos long-term on small media. What is the best? I saw this comment on line: "10 years ago, flash memory had a limited life expectancy. You might expect it to last from 10,000 to 100,000 read-write cycles. Current flash ram probably is 10 or more times better. You can expect flash ram in a typical device to last from 50 to 100 years." When they say "flash ram" does that mean USB Flash Sticks? Camera memory sticks? Are these the same kind of memory? Thanks, GG
ALHOLK
Yes, they are based on the same memory technology. Bear in mind that flash memory can fail. A cople of weeks ago a 1 year old USB stick failed for me. If you are going to store data that is important to you you should store 2 different copies. E.g.burn a CD/DVD and store another copy on flash media.
kamui
I would recommend a third solution: Mozy.com. It's a very secure and highly reliable online storage which can run on your PC automatically. But of course you can use it for one time storage as well. 2 GB are free.
The_Munchmaster
Why not buy a portable hard drive. I've got a 150 GB Western Digital hard drive which is about half the size of DVD and is powered off the PC.
