This week the teams begin their on-track preparations for the 2009 Formula One season, which sees some of the most far-reaching rule changes in recent years. Tighter aerodynamic regulations, the return of slick tyres, the arrival of adjustable front wings and the introduction of Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) are all set to make cars sleeker and overtaking easier. Mentors Posted February 25, 2009 Author Report Share Posted February 25, 2009 U.S. team gears up for Formula One entry in 2010 The founders of a proposed all-American Formula One team unveiled plans to enter the sport in 2010 Tuesday while remaining sketchy about where the funding would come from. "We always wanted to do our own team our way," Peter Windsor, a journalist and former Williams team manager who will assume the role of USF1 sporting director, told a live audience on Speed TV. "It sounds very arrogant perhaps but we have got some history, we have some things we want to bring into the sport." Windsor is partnered in the project by American Ken Anderson, a race engineer with experience in both F1 and Indycar. The plan is to build and design a car in America to be raced by American drivers. "We set some unbelievable steep hills to climb in a recession," said Windsor. "But we're now two guys that can say we're going to do a Formula One team because we've got the capital to do it." The rest of the standings, from second to last place, will be decided by the current points system. If two or more drivers finish the season with the same number of wins, the title will be awarded to the driver with the most points, the allocation of points being based on the existing 10, 8, 6 etc. structure. The constructorsâ?? championship is unaffected. The FIAâ??s World Motor Sport Council accepted the proposal for the new system from Formula One Management at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday. 2009 Formula One Regulations Points The WMSC accepted the proposal from Formula One Management to award the driversâ?? championship to the driver who has won the most races during the season. If two or more drivers finish the season with the same number of wins, the title will be awarded to the driver with the most points, the allocation of points being based on the current 10, 8, 6 etc. system. The rest of the standings, from second to last place, will be decided by the current points system. There is no provision to award medals for first, second or third place. The Constructorsâ??
