ThaiHome
People either love Mr T or hate him, no in between. He has been described as both the most loved and most hated politician in Thai history. Donâ??t you think Phibun and Pridi share that title (taking turns, of course, on who is hated and who is loved)? Next to them, Thaksin has a long way to go, don't you think? Flashermac
Nope. Not at all. In Pridi and Pibun's day most ordinary Thais weren't that much into politics. Interestingly, when Mr T first got in, a taxi driver bent my ear one day about how Mr T was another Pibun. Mr T had said he wanted to be PM for 10 years and was going to do everything he could to do so. He was going to bring in his cronies etc etc. And that cabbie was right. p.s. I've never heard anyone say they loved Pibun. Pridi is hardly remembered except by political science majors and the students at Thammasat University, which Pridi founded and where his office as head of the Free Thai WWII underground is preserved.
