Steve
Not that I'm for 18 year olds to drink alcohol but for me its a matter of fairness and my libertarian leanings of right and wrong. I don't see how the government can say that an 18 year old is not responsibile enough to handle alcohol but have the capacity to handle weapons in the military, face death or kill another. An 18 year old can get married, have a child, start a family but can't drink? An 18 year old can buy, own and operate a car but can't drink. However if you want to smoke, then 18 is okay. You have the capacity to handle the risks of smoking but not drink alcohol? It makes absolutely no sense and I don't understand the conflicting logic. allistar
Smoking causes damage that may not be seen for 40 years. Drinking (drunk driving) has immediate consequences, as well as health issues down the road. Of course, drunk driving isn't the domain of just the 18-25 year olds but it did increase in the 70's when 18 year olds were allowed to drink.
