drogon
Because China sees a part of Kashmir as a very important strategic area. -> not for nothing they did have a little war with India. Anyway, as you say they will always find a reason to fight no matter what the issue is.

Flashermac
The maharajah of Kashmir was a Hindu and opted for India. A majority of the people are Muslim. A fair solution would be partition, with India retaining the non-Muslim areas. However, neither India nor Pakistan would like that situation, since Kashmir is strategically. Whichever country controlled it would have a military advantage. Don't expect any solution to Kashmir until India and Pakistan start trusting each other. Also, the PRC has occupied and claims a bit of it. p.s. Ironically, there are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan!
