Guest
gummigut: Next time I visit an HSBC branch here in Canada, I 'll have to see how they compare to what you receive with a U.S. account. Thanks very much for the update.
Guest
A lot of times when people mention travelers checks or bank accounts & Thailand, it is because they are thinking in terms of how things worked in the past. You may have a legit reason, but consider this--I've found even as a resident I need neither. ATM's are prolific (it's just about where there are now TWO on every street corner) with good exchange rates. If I need to buy something that is more than the daily limit, they accept credit cards. I have never needed to write a check for anything (bills paid at 7/11)and like the simplicity of not having to manage an extra, foreign account.
