dean
You have to buy a new blu-ray player that only plays blu-ray disks. In the U.S., they cost betwen $200-250.00.
carlton68
Blu Ray says it, the players/burners laser use blue light instead of the red one found in DVD players. You need a blu ray player to play the blu ray discs. Blu ray discs are marked on the box with a blue ribbon and the blu ray logo on it. Even with a blu ray player you still need a matching screen to make full use of the HD video.
carlton68
I thought that most blu ray players also play DVDs. Maybe I'm wrong as I mainly look at blu ray burners for the computer. These read and write blu ray , DVDs, CDs and even read HD-DVD. Still I don't own one.
teddy
In addition to a full HD TV to get the best picture, you also need an amplifier/receiver that can process the TrueHD sound that comes on the Blu Ray discs.

dean
I stand corrected! I own a Bose Home theater system, that uses DVD'a and may switch over to the Blu ray system, when the price comes down.
sayjann
thanks. i'll take it back,i'm not gonna bother buying a player for a disc which cost less than £10.
Badger77
I use a Playstation 3 to play Blu-ray movies. Since Blu-ray beat out HD-DVD that's the only type of DVD I'm buying. Might as well start upgrading gradually. Just got back from a barbaque at my boss's house. I asked if those were Vinyl records in his entertainment center. He responded: "Nope, LASERDISK." mainsail
Blu-Ray won the format war. No more HD-DVD. At least this one didn't take as long as Beta vs. VHS. I think downloads will ultimately beat out the discs anyway.
