drogon
Looking for some new articles about the sinking of HMS Barham -> I stumbled upon a short article about a British medium who was convicted during WW2 following this law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witchcraft_Act I was quite stunned about that. Dexi
There was a recent documentary on channel 4 about this.....quite surprising that such a law could actually be used.
Flashermac
One of my ancestors is supposed to have been drowned in 17th century England, proving her innocent of the witchcraft charge. (If she'd floated, it meant Satan had helped her and Matthew Hopkins would have burnt her at the stake.) I suspect she was singled out because she was Welsh. Her disgusted husband took their son and sailed for Virginia the following year. Amazing that the laws were still in effect when I was a small child. drogon
I suppose the Monthy Pythons were right... Luckily in the forties -> you were not burnt or drowned anymore if convicted of witchcraft
