ozpharlap
I am sure it is just my paranoia however, I always seem to get a better rate from the old thai women who works there, and not the young chap. So, I deliberately stand in front of her side of the desk. In my experience, Vasu Travel usually provides the best rate on exchange, especially over those extra ATM extra costs, like non use of home bank for a withdrawal fee, money exchange fee. On a typical 10,000 baht withdrawal, the fees can be up to 500 baht - at Vasu, you get a better rate and no extra fees. However, I think traveling with large amounts of Australian cash on one's person, one day, may lead to a miserable trip if the surplus cash goes walkies. cavanami
On 14 Feb 2009, I got $$$ from the UOB ATM, 20,000 baht at a rate of 34.918. Same day, exchanged $1000 USD ($100 bills) at Siam Xchge at a rate of: 35.05. So, 0.132 baht higher at the money changers.
