Yet another foreigner drugged and robbed

On Thursday afternoon the staff of a hotel in South Pattaya specializing in short stays for couples who are usually not married went to a room that had been rented the previous day where they found Mr Tim Hallacy, a 64-year-old United States national, in what appeared to be a distressed state. Mr Hallacy was finding it difficult to remain in any kind of an upright position, but it wasnâ??t because of a night of unbridled passion, in fact it was the result of a night of unexpected robbery. The American man had come to the hotel the previous afternoon with a Thai lady and asked to rent a room. Staff duly complied but neglected to obtain a copy of the Thai ladyâ??s ID card, claiming they thought the pair might have been a married couple. A few hours later another two Thai ladies arrived and went up to visit the room occupied by Mr Hallacy and his companion. The next day the three Thai women left without Mr Hallacy. A little surprised at the time the American was taking, staff went to investigate and discovered Mr Hallacy in a state they originally thought was reminiscent of someone who had ingested far too much in the way of alcoholic substances. It appears he had been slipped a Mickey Finn by his female companions and been relieved of US$170, a gold ring, and his mobile phone. The total value of the stolen goods amounted to about 15,000 baht. Police suggest foreign men should be wary of Greeks bearing gifts, or more correctly, ladies of dubious moral virtue offering already poured drinks.

A small amount of money really to put the man's life at risk by giving him a drug you have no idea how he will react to. Split it 3 ways and it amounts to almost nothing - 4 or 5 thou baht each, if that.

Desperate women it seems, and slow season plus the economic crisis and all the other problems facing Thailand and tourism here. Add in the flu closing some places and scaring away what little sex tourists there are these days in Pattaya and I expect these sort of crimes will only increase.

If you think the Thai on farang crime is bad there you should see the Thai on Thai crime. Far outweighs what happens to the occasional tourists.

It'll get worse.
