youngfarang
If I was on a budget and wanted to stay close to the night life I would highly reccommend the Honey Inn on soi 19. Staff very friendly and is a stones throw from SC. 1000 baht per night. Can't beat it.
bangkokrover
The Mile High Club, just off Sukhumvit 28, 10 min walk from Phrom Phong station. Single room 600 baht per night. Started a few months ago by an ex UK airline pilot. Brand new well equipped rooms with a safe in each. Also aircon, ceiling fan, hot & cold shower, fridge,True Visions(in room). Downstairs has a bar with cheap beer (The Aviator's Bar). I've seen the rooms they're terrific value. The Aviator's bar is friendly but too new to have developed much atmosphere. guest friendly? not sure but with a name like "Mile High Club" I would assume it is. Owner's name is Max, phone02 259-9884, or 086 351 9144
