gobbledonk Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 ABC-TV reported this depressing statistic tonight - apparently its the deepest recession since records began. Given the images we were served during the 80s recession, that boggles the mind - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/10/24/2723171.htm?section=world At least you dont have to watch Maggie Thatcher threatening the unions this time around.
Faustian Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Yeah, it's shite. Only just below recovery, but still in recession. Hardly surprising really. The UK is in for a long term, very slow recovery. Things need to change there radically.
cavanami Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Errr...the unemployment continues to increase in the USA, but after the past few months we are not a developed economy! just a shite economy!!
Julian2 Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Australia's doing ok. Kevin Rudd has made sure that Torneyboy's taxes are being put to good use.
HeartThais Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 Yeah, it's shite. Only just below recovery, but still in recession. Hardly surprising really. The UK is in for a long term, very slow recovery. Things need to change there radically. I kinda think things need to go back a little. The UK's bread and butter going forward will be finance. And that only by virtue of being in a timezone that overlaps least with New York and Tokyo.
buddha Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 I beg to differ with the title...things in the US are not getting better at the rate that it is being reported.
gobbledonk Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 Ok - there are lies, damned lies and statistics, but I'm hopeful that the dickheads who started most of this read those stats and start lending again. Not for casinos on the strip in Vegas (a graveyard, apparently) but to small businesses who actually want to hire folk to produce something other than misery.
Tyfon Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Australia's doing ok. If Australia is so flush then the UK could raise money by selling Rolf Harris, Clive James and Dame Edna back to them - this could raise literally hundreds of pounds for the Chancellor.
Julian2 Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Are they still alive? You'd probably get more for Kylie Minogue but think of the hole it would leave in your culture.
jack_schist Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 or that cranky old bitch feminist. forgot her name.
