A guess ??? Not enough info, but a guess maybe the property, often the family house or farm land, goes to a daughter. Also, you mentioned she owned a house. Property, is the only thing, I can think of must be done in Roi Et. ???

passingthru69
The hassles is why I suggested to my wife that she not change her last name. Changing passports, bank accounts, plus the land deal we have going on with the family house. To many hassles.
ThaiHome
There is no requirement for a Thai women to take her husbands surname. There is a requirement that she change her status to married (Mrs). This is especially important if buying property as the foreign husband is required to sign an affidavit confirming that the property is not marital property and belongs solely to the wife. If the affidavit is not signed, then in theory the deed can be invalidated and a forced sale would take place. The land dept has made it clear that a Thai woman married to a foreigner can buy property, but the affidavit must be signed, even if the wife has not changed her name.
