Days 4 and 5

Woke up feeling refreshed, jet lag waning and all things good. We met for our daily breakfast at the hotel to rehash the previous days events, and came to the collective agreement that it doesn?t get much better then this. One thing about Thailand for me was, for the first time in a long time I was able to just enjoy myself, my business pressures were on the opposite side of the world and as far as I was concerned could stay there. You get this wonderful sense of relaxation in Thailand that?s hard to describe.

I called N2 on her cell to set up the time to meet for our bike tour around Phuket. S decided to just lounge around and read a book as the ?inventive? style of Thai driving had him a little spooked to be on a Motorcycle. K?s friend M ended up having to meet a friend so it would be Myself, K, N2 and her friend on our little excursion. Ended up renting a motorcycle for 150 baht at the hotel, one of the better buys of the trip. Our Australian friends in the hotel told me they got theirs for 500 baht for the week, so motorcycles can be had for the cheep in Thailand. By far this was the best bargain of the trip for me, and I highly recommend that everyone give this a shot down there.

N2 and her friend came by the hotel, so we were off on our magical mystery tour of Phuket Island. We decided to head south to Karon and Katta beaches, and then finish off at the southern tip at Rawai beach. The traffic after you get out of Patong drops drastically, so if you are worried about the creative driving habits it gets better in the good since of the word. Oh and make sure you wear your helmet, racial profiling in Thailand is a wildly accepted practice. The day before we were relaxing at an open-air bar on Patong beach and watched the local law enforcement pull over every single farang without a helmet without one local without helmet getting pulled over.

Our first stop was at Karon beach to grab a bite to eat, the first of 3 stops, those Thais love to eat. The beach here and down the coast is a major step up over Patong beach, and the target market for these places seems to be more family oriented and the prices reflect that. The food on this beach was the best Thai I had while there. A great place to stop, nice beach great food, and a relaxing atmosphere.

On this stop and the others, I had a chance to talk to and get to know N2 much better. She had been working in Patong for the last 3 years, had helped put her sister through college and took great pride in that. No story?s about sick water buffalo or sick family, just a wonderful sense of pride in her sister and family. Going to Thailand, while there and even now, I had no desire for a long-term relationship with a Thai lady. I just wanted to enjoy the beauty that Thailand offered, and maybe develop some new friendships. I think going in with this attitude-helped make the trip what it was for me, an amazing experience with no complications. N2 and myself were not going to be able to have in depth conversations about Politics/Arab Israeli conflict or other such matters, but we would be able to connect in other areas like the meaning of families and other areas and that was exactly fine with me. Plus the wonderful pampering you receive from a beautiful Thai lady is such a nice contrast from what its like at home, and without the headaches. It was a fantasy, a short time fantasy, but that?s what I wanted and new I would get coming in.

After leaving Karon, we drove to the top of the hill before Katta, and found a fantastic hut that overlooked both beaches. I have some great pictures of this place and the coastline, (quick question, if I join Nana, is there a place to post pictures) if you have never seen the coastline of southern Phuket it is gorgeous. So we sat, drank, laughed and had a generally great time at this little thatched roof paradise. Then off south to Rawai where we stopped again to of course eat some more. By the way, I?m not complaining about the eating, did I mention I love Thai food.

We made our way back to Patong and made plans for the evening for N2 to come by and go eat at a place called Baan Rim Pa. This is an upscale restaurant on the northern edge of Patong, and the prices reflect the upscale image. Had my first tuk tuk ride up the hill to the restaurant and waited to be seated. Baan Rim Pa has a beautiful setting, the food I thought was average, but the atmosphere was great. The only problem was that K?s friend M was treated rather poorly by the staff, it could have been her dress as N2 was probably better dressed for this location. But still, we had a word with the staff and it improved after that altercation. M is a little rough around the edges, but a great lady and nobody deserves to be treated as less of a human being regardless. The bill for the 4 of us was 7800 baht, so know you will pay a little more for the atmosphere.

After diner we N2 and myself went dancing and S, M and K went to have a quick nightcap before bed. I stayed up late with N2 chatting, made love and fell into a contented sleep with a beautiful lady. Thus ended a wonderful Day 4.

The next morning after breakfast we headed over to the country club to play a round of golf. Golf in Phuket, I believe is a wonderful bargain, 2000 baht with cart and caddy?s for 18 holes. The caddy?s we ended up with made the round one of the best I had ever had. Now best in the sense of fun, the score on the other hand, mai pen rai. After the first couple of holes the caddy got into the spirit of trash talking that K S and myself obviously enjoyed. Nothing better then getting your caddy to play mind games on your opponent, even learned a little trash talk in Thai. We decided to put 100 baht wagers on each hole of which the caddy?s got half if their guy won. Great fun and my caddy S2 became quite the green reader for me at that point. I did over tip one last time for S2, but I didn?t exactly rack up the baht for her in the game, and her personality was outstanding. If golf is your thing, take a morning and enjoy the courses on Phuket.

Were off to see the Katoey?s the wonder Katoey?s of Phuket

We decided to hit up the Katoey BB section that night. What was that saying, ?the coldest winter I ever experienced was a summer in San Francisco? well along those lines ?the best looking women I saw in Phuket was a guy?. One of my fears going over to Thailand was to get really trashed and wake up with a katoey. Now fortunately I didn?t get that trashed, but I can see how it could happen. On the first day in BKK, at patpong we ran into a katoey who was absolutely stunning, and a few in Phuket would come close to the stunning category, and believe me I?m very particular on the stunning label. Its easy to find the Katoey BB area, just walk down Bangla until you hit the cabaret type ladyboys in the street then head on in.

Honestly after we sat down at a bar, I wouldn?t have guessed 30 percent of the lady boys we talked with. I looked at adams apple, hand size, voice everything and some of them I couldn?t tell. S, as fate would have it, had the best looking of the group attach her/himself to S. S looked a little pale, and I was fending off wayward hands, as the katoey?s put BBG to shame in the aggressive department. We went into the Katoey cabaret show, and had a great time watching the different lip sync numbers. I would recommend that you experience this area once while in Phuket.

We made a side trip on the way over to one of M?s old haunts to see the lovely C. S actually fought going to the bar, but we persuaded him it was for the best. Spent a fun two hours with C and the group just laughing and having a great time. After C?s bar, We went to M?s place and for some reason S found the ?power of yes?. After we sat down, I noticed for the first time S not only allowing but also encouraging the local talent to fawn explore whatever. It was a sudden change, and yes after a break in the action I had to find out what was up. It turned out that at the katoey place that the beautiful one had an effect on S that he didn?t expect or particularly want, so basically he told me he was trying to make sure he was comfortable in his masculinity, and he assured me he was all right. After laughing my ass off, I told him not to worry, mai pen rai, I was worried about the same thing, thus my fending the katoeys off so mightily.

I decided to go over to see N2 at Playschool, and bar fine her for the following night. Taking leave of the group, I went over for one of the two less the ideal things that happened in Thailand. Everything was fine, told N2 that I was busy with the guys but wanted to see her on my last night in Phuket tomorrow. I had been doing a lot of photo?s wherever I went and including bars (obviously not a go go yet), and wanted to get one of the bitchy mamason. I had the camera out and took a quick pic, a big no no. She freaked, and I said ok, I will delete it, sense it was a digital camera. But instead she went postal on me, scratching whatever it took, so while fending her off, and unfortunately loosing my cool, I deleted the picture off while she was doing her freak thing. It was a mistake on my part, an honest one but I didn?t handle it to well, and in hindsight, what I regret most was that N2 probably lost face because of it, and also made what I did the next day even worse. But I was pissed, went to the bar paid the chit and N2?s bar fine for the next day and walked out just barely saying goodbye to a very sad looking N2. Hint, never ever take a pic in a Go Go.

Wanting to get back into the Thai frame of mind after the Pic thing, S and I went to Rock Hard GO GO at the end of Bangla road, and to be honest it took about a sec to get the frame of mind back. We enjoyed chatting with N3 and N4 quite a bit and decided at 1:00 to do another disco up. The name slips my mind at the moment, but it?s on the end of Bangla on the opposite side of the street. S made a request, since he restricted himself to not taking anyone home for himself, he wanted to pick out someone for me. Being I?m a good friend I agreed, and thus the saga of the college twins C2 and T. I told S no restrictions, up to him, so to speak. So at a table towered the entrance were two interesting ladies. S pointed the way and off we went to introduce ourselves. It turned out they were college students looking to make some extra money on the break. We decided to leave and big surprise they wanted to eat, so we hit up an outdoor restaurant. S informed me that, as usual he was staying strong and that I would have to pick one. Pick one, hmmmm, not likely, so knowing that from my reading here, that even thou two BG?s will go with you, does not mean that they will be together. So after discussing this aspect, the two lady?s returned with me and I had my nice night as a sandwich. And S went home alone again.

Next ?the power of C? day 5 in Phuket and day 6 in BKK

did you take a picture of the mamasan or just a picture in playschool?.

i make a habit of getting to know the owners of these places and i have many pictures taken within playschool of the girls, owner and the mamasan(but she might have changed by now).

my regular go-go is pink panther(next door but one to playschool) and i have much video of the girls dancing on the stage and in the go-go in general, and all because i get to know the important people.

Hi,

"quick question, if I join Nana, is there a place to post pictures"

No, not at the moment. We are considering giving our members some space on our server, though, for a homepage, pictures or whatever. No decision yet.

As for joining, how about this.. you allow me to use your trip report on the site, and I give you a free 3 month subscription?

"go eat at a place called Baan Rim Pa. This is an upscale restaurant on the northern edge of Patong, and the prices reflect the upscale image."

Yep. Was invited here by a client once. I too thought the food not worth the price being asked for it, my Thai colleagues even complained of the food afterwards.

"The bill for the 4 of us was 7800 baht, so know you will pay a little more for the atmosphere."

OUCH! That's not just a little more. I had lunch yesterday with some people from the office at a nice Thai restaurant in BKK. The bill for 7 came to 836 Baht.

Sanuk!

I've been to Baan Rim Pa and liked it. It is not much different than any other upscale Thai or Chinese restaurant. Typically at these places the higher price pays for good atmosphere (nice view, nice presentation, friendly and attentive staff). Usually the quality of the food is better (i.e. better cuts of meat, fresher vegetables, ...) but you can always find cheaper and tastier food if you know where to look.

You typically don't find many Thai people at these places because for them the atmosphere means little and they usually do know how to find the hole in the wall that serves a few killer dishes. Thai and Chinese people are critical of the food no matter where they go. It is often a matter of pride that everyone has their pet restaurants where they make the best XXX, and this one the best YYY.
