gawguy
I am on Comcast Cable in USA. I have been using a couple of different free speed test sites and getting results like Download speed 19mbs from one site and 4 Mbps from another. Searching around I came across what looks like an excellent "whitepaper" explaining why this happens. I learned a lot, but I still don't know what my upload/download speeds are. This particular site just happens to SELL speed test software, but I really don't want to buy. Still, I would like to know my broadband speed. I came across something that said download/upload speeds should be about the same and one site gave me a result like that: http://www.auditmypc.com/broadband-speed-test.asp 4635 down / 4562 up K\Mbps Do you think this is the most relevant one? For any geeks that haven't read an excellent explanation, check this out: http://www.myconnectionserver.com/whitepapers/understanding_speed_test_results.html Where might one find the full battery of tests at no charge? And...pls comment at will. Thanks, Gaw Guy
shygye
I'd say 99+% of residential broadband customers have different upload and download speeds. Mine are 6 Mbps download and 512 Kbps upload.

carlton68
Buy a speedtest software? You can't be serious! Check your bandwidth at Speedtest.net Very reliable.
gawguy
Buy a speedtest software? You can't be serious! Check your bandwidth at Speedtest.net Very reliable. It tells me 15.73 Mb/s download 3.63 Mb/s upload It seems quick, quick when it's in the mood. It's not always in the mood. GG
soongmak
Thanks for the site carlton. It gives a good indication of the actual speed. Here are my results: Actually not bad, as the advertised speed from my ISP was 30Mb/s up, and 3 Mb/s up.
carlton68
Songmaak, your broadband speed makes me cry. gawguy, most likely your unsteady connection comes from the infrastructure used by your cable provider. After all it's just one cable which splits for a number of customers. This cable has a maximum capacity which is shared by several subscribers. That way it may happen that yo get your promised speed late at night or early morning. But when everyone goes online after work and the bandwidth has to be shared by many then everyon's speed gets clipped.
